The legend returned Saturday night - as the coach of the visiting Somerset Bulldogs. Sonny Detmer - the man who took the Eagles to the state semi-finals and changed Valley football met his former protege David Gilpin, now the head coach of the Veterans Memorial Patriots. In the season opener for both teams, the see-saw battle saw Somerset score a touchdown on a fourth and long down with under a minute to play and handed the Patriots a bitter 41-34 loss.
