Football - Harlingen at McAllen Memorial
After playing several weeks for a playoff spot, the McAllen Memorial Mustangs matched against the Harlingen Cardinals in bi-district play. Right from the get go, the Cardinals established their dominance and showed why they are District Champions. Although the Mustangs showed a few flashes for some moments, the Harlingen Cardinals were too much and convincingly defeated the McAllen Memorial Mustangs 58-20. The Cardinals will face The Sharyland Rattlers next week.

Football - McAllen Memorial at McHi
After defeating their other city rival, the McHi Bulldogs and the McAllen Memorial Mustangs met Friday night to decide the City of Palms Football Championship. The Mustangs, after a tough loss last week, came in fighting for the last playoff spot. On the other hand, the McHi Bulldogs came undefeated and ready to clinch the District 31-5A Championship outright. All of this did not matter for these city rivals. The Mustangs and Bulldogs had to go into overtime to settle things, and a two-point conversion was the difference in the end. The McAllen Memorial Mustangs defeated the McHi Bulldogs 50-48 in double overtime.

Football - Weslaco East at McAllen Memorial
A shootout at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday night. No punters needed! The Weslaco East Wildcats and the McAllen Memorial Mustangs did not disappoint on their match-up. The Mustangs scored first, but the Wildcats answered right back. This pattern went on throughout the game until an uncharacteristic turnover changed things and the Weslaco East Wildcats beat the McAllen Memorial Mustangs by having the ball last. The final score was 63-56 in favor of the Wildcats.

Football - Nikki Rowe at McAllen Memorial
Regulation time was not enough to settle this City of Palms rivalry between the Nikki Rowe Warriors and the McAllen Memorial Mustangs. The running game of the Mustangs was difficult to stop in the beginning of the game, but the Warriors countered that with a solid passing game. A blocked field goal by the Nikki Rowe Warriors sent the game to overtime, but the McAllen Memorial Mustangs forced an interception in the first possession of the extra time. A great play action set the winning touchdown for the Mustangs who took the victory over the Warriors 35-28 in overtime.

Volleyball - McAllen Memorial at McHi
Always fun to cover a rivalry game! The McAllen Memorial Lady Bulldogs visited the McHi Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The gym was full of high emotions, chants from the student sections, and lots of excitement. Every point was played to the fullest! With some great defense and a few serves that bounced their way, the McAllen Memorial Lady Mustangs defeated the McHi Lady Bulldogs 3-1 (sets: 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20).
In the JV Game, the JV Lady Mustangs also beat the JV Lady Bulldogs. We got photos of that game as well.

Baseball - McAllen memorial at McHi
The City of Palms rivalry between the McHi Bulldogs and the McAllen Memorial Mustangs took place on Saturday morning and it was a close one. After keeping the game scoreless for several innings, the Memorial Mustangs took a one run lead and the Bulldogs followed to tie the game right after. At the bottom of the 7th inning, the McHi Bulldogs loaded the bases and got a hit to walk off with the 2-1 victory over the McAllen Memorial Mustangs.

Baseball - PSJA at McAllen Memorial
A heated game between the McAllen Memorial Mustangs and the PSJA Bears took place Friday night. The Mustangs took a convincing lead in the early innings, but the Bears fought back to take a one run lead in the 6th inning. The McAllen Memorial Mustangs put together a rally at the bottom of the inning to walk away with the 11-6 victory over the PSJA Bears and keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

The McAllen Memorial Mustangs hosted their city rivals the Nikki Rowe Warriors on Friday night. The Mustangs jumped early in the scoreboard, but the Warriors answered right back steadily until they took the lead away from the Mustangs. When the game was over, the Nikki Rowe Warriors walked away with the victory over the McAllen Memorial Mustangs.

Soccer - McAllen Memorial @ McHi
It was a City of Palms Showdown. The old rivalry between the McHi Lady Bulldogs and the McAllen Memorial Lady Mustangs took place at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday night. To make things better, the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Mustangs came into the match as two of the top teams in the Valley. They did not disappoint. The Memorial Lady Mustangs scored early in the first half and dominated the game, but the Lady Bulldogs kept fighting and tied the game in the second half. Just when things looked like they were heading to a shootout, an outstanding goal by the Lady Bulldogs broke the game open. In the end, the McHi Lady Bulldogs defeated the McAllen Memorial Lady Mustangs 3-1.

Basketball - Weslaco at McAllen memorial
The first game of a double header featured the high-ranked Weslaco Lady Panthers against the McAllen Memorial Lady Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs scored first in the game, but things did not go well the rest of the match. The Weslaco Lady Panthers showed their dominance and beat the Lady Mustangs convincingly.
In the second game of the night, the McAllen Memorial Mustangs hosted the Weslaco Panthers. The Mustangs enjoyed a big lead until the Panthers put a heated comeback where emotions were riding high. Once the emotions settled, the McAllen Memorial Mustangs took the victory over the Weslaco Panthers.

Basketball - McAllen memorial at Nikki Rowe
The doubleheader Friday night was between city rivals. In the first game, the Nikki Rowe Warriors faced the McAllen Memorial Mustangs. Although the game was close at some points and full of emotional rivalry, the Warriors managed to keep the Mustangs away from a comeback and prevailed. The Nikki Rowe Warriors defeated the McAllen Memorial Mustangs 60-32.
In the second game, the favorite Nikki Rowe Lady Warriors hosted the McAllen Memorial Lady Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs managed to stay in the game during the first half, but the Lady Warriors were too much and eventually walked away with the victory.

The PSJA Bears hosted the McAllen Memorial Mustangs on Friday night. The Mustangs needed a victory to move on to the playoffs while the PSJA Bears were still looking to close their season with a victory. the McAllen Memorial Mustangs stroke first and too the early lead that prevailed after a push from the Bears in the second half. The Mustangs move on to the playoffs with the 31-16 victory over the Bears.

Football - McAllen memorial @ Nikki Rowe
City rivalry, playoff implications, and bragging rights. These are the story lines behind Friday night's game at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium between the Nikki Rowe Warriors and the McAllen Memorial Mustangs. Both teams did not disappoint the crowd. The Memorial Mustangs took the lead and the game seem one-sided at one point, but the tenacity of the Nikki Rowe Warriors showed up and they put a strong second half to take the lead back. After the Mustangs tied the game in the fourth, they surprised the Warriors with an onside kick and eventually score the winning field goal to take the victory 31-28.

Football - PSJA Memoria HS @ McAllen Memorial HS
It was a Memorial Friday night. The PSJA Memorial Wolverines paid a visit to the McAllen Memorial Mustangs. The Wolverines came in with authority and scored a touchdown on their first offensive drive. The Mustangs, on the other hand, slowed down the game with some power running that eventually got them the lead before Halftime. In the second half, again the PSJA Memorial Wolverines came out strong, but when the nigh was over, the McAllen Memorial Mustangs walked away with the 32-14 victory over the Wolverines.
